Emily’s Walking Book Club meets once a month to walk and talk about books on Hampstead Heath, in Regent’s Park, and also has a monthly Zoom for those who would like to join the conversation but can’t make the walks. We’ve been meeting now for over a decade.

As well as our events, I send out this newsletter every Monday with extra info about the books, our meet ups, monthly webcasts (find them all HERE) and more. It’s a great way to keep reading along with the group. There are now 4,000 of us, subscribing from all over the world - thanks for being part of it!

About the book club

We are a very friendly and welcoming bunch of people from all walks of life, with the books providing a very fertile common ground for great discussion and friendship.

Our original Sunday morning Hampstead Heath walks are our most popular events, with about 50-70 people coming each month. The Regent’s Park Friday lunchtime walks are a little more select, with around 15-30 people coming, and the Zooms tend to be around 10-20 people - with a fair proportion dialling in from abroad, which always feels exciting!

Please ensure you’ve read the book before joining a walk, so that everyone can join in the conversation. If you’ve not got round to reading it, please join the Zoom instead, where people are welcome to listen.

Good dogs are welcome to join the Hampstead Heath walks (but not the Regent’s Park ones), so long as they don’t mind making friends with my whippet Alfie.

Money

Books and reading should be for everyone, and this book club will always be absolutely free for anyone who needs it to be. The walks and zooms are on a pay what you can basis, and all the content on this newsletter is available to everyone for free. Having said that, I hope you’ll see that I do put a considerable amount of time into the book club and this weekly newsletter, so if you are able to pay £20/year to help support it, I’d be grateful. A few of you have asked if I get a commission for recommending books; I don’t, and any discount gets passed on directly to you.

About Me

Hello I’m Emily Rhodes, a writer and former bookseller, and I strongly believe in the power of books to build communities. As well as this book club, I’m the founder of Bookbanks - a new charity that brings books to food banks. I write about books and the arts for various national publications, and enjoy hosting literary events.
